Dried Sludge Removed West Blocton, Al

These pictures are from the sewer treatment plant in West Blocton, Al. We dug out the dried sludge from these drying beds. As the sewer plant takes in sewer from the city, the plant accumulated sludge. The sludge is pumped over to the drying beds and the heavy water settles down into the tiny cracks in the base of the beds. The water is then pumped back to the plant for treatment while the sludge is dried over time by the sun and heat. Once the bed is filled, it has to be removed and hauled to the landfill.
